GRACE, 2015 (installation)
glazed raku clay, hand-made table, aerosol, bird wire, fabric dye, plaster, hair extensions, wire.
GRACE is an installation of work using plaster and clay, two separate projects which coincided in theme. The work explores experiences of transgressive femininity, sexuality and appearance. And is informed by historical ideas of ‘the Other’ and ‘monstrous femininity’ and the symbolism of hair in this trope and it’s relation to contemporary experience. In general the work deals with the Other, navigating the spectrum of femininity and sexuality from grotesque and blatant to innocent and virginal.
Part of a larger installation, Crone references a common archetype of an old woman from folktale and literature. The work explores experiences of transgressive femininity, sexuality and appearance, juxtaposing the virginal, the whore and the old woman in one figure. In general the work deals with the Other, navigating the spectrum of femininity and sexuality from grotesque and blatant to innocent and virginal.
