Venus figurines (installation), 2015
ceramics, wire, recycled wood
Venus figurines examines the abject body, the grotesque and the beautiful. The works embody something Other, something unwanted, cast out, transgressive but thriving. The pieces individually examine intimate moments or thoughts and as a whole are an investigation into the body and the pieces therein. It is a visual struggle striving to establish how a bodily identity is formed in relation to monstrous femininity, sexuality and appearance and in rejection/acknowledgment of bodily functions.
